Sawyer Family Law

About the firm

Located in Roswell, Georgia, Sawyer Family Law represents clients in all family law matters including cases involving divorce, separation, child custody, paternity, legitimation, child support, adoption, domestic violence, pre-nuptial and post-nuptial agreements, and post-divorce modification and enforcement.

The firm was founded by attorney J. Ashley Sawyer who has practiced law for ten years, eight of which were dedicated exclusively to family law. Prior to practicing family law, Ashley worked as a judicial staff attorney in Cobb County Superior Court. During her career, Ashley has worked for some of Atlanta's most prestigious family law firms. Prior to opening Sawyer Family Law, Ashley was a partner at family law firm Hedgepeth, Heredia & Rieder in Atlanta.

When explaining why she wanted to open her own firm, Ashley said, "it's not one-size-fits-all in family law. While issues overlap, the circumstances are always unique, and there are many methods of resolving a case based on a client's goals and needs. Family law is very personal, and a client needs to feel understood by and completely comfortable with his or her attorney. Much of that comfort is found when a client knows his or her attorney is actively involved in every aspect of the client's case. Opening Sawyer Family Law has given me the ability to better customize and personalize my services for clients. As the owner of the firm, I have the flexibility to work a case in a very individualized manner, tailored to the specific needs of a particular client. I am also able to personally ensure that each one of my clients receives the hands-on, attentive service they deserve."

At Sawyer Family Law we understand the stressful and emotional nature of family law cases. We provide compassionate and respectful counsel to our clients.  We use realistic and practical solutions to help clients resolve their issues. Options and strategies are provided throughout the case and we keep our clients informed every step of the way. Areas of Practice

Divorce can be an emotionally and financially draining process.  We will develop a plan at the beginning of your case to help you navigate the next phase of your life while minimizing the toll the divorce process can take on your family.

Circumstances can change after a divorce. Sometimes the prior custodial arrangement or child support obligation becomes unworkable due to causes beyond your control. We will work to create a new custody or child support arrangement which best fits your current needs and situation.

Prenuptial and postnuptial agreements

In certain circumstances, it is important for couples to have an agreement on what will happen to their respective property and finances should they ever divorce. These rights and responsibilities can be detailed in a prenuptial or postnuptial agreement.  We are experienced in drafting these agreements to best protect you should you ever be faced with divorce.

child custody

We understand that your children are of upmost importance.  We will work tirelessly to ensure that you receive the most time possible with your children and that you have a say in the decisions that affect them most.

Choosing to bring a child into your family is one of the most exciting decisions you will make, but the legal barriers can seem daunting at first. We will walk you through each step of the process so you can rest easy knowing the legalities will be overcome and your new family will be brought together timely.

paternity and legitimation

When two unmarried parents have a child, certain legal actions need to be taken to establish a parent's custodial rights and determine child support.  We work hard to ensure that unwed fathers and mothers receive what they are entitled to under the law.

child support

The law requires parents to provide financial support for their children.  We make sure your children are receiving what is fair and necessary for their education, medical care, and other living expenses.

Judges expect their orders about visitation, child support, and property division to be followed.  Sometimes you need to take legal action to make someone comply.
If needed, we will file a contempt action to ensure that the provisions of your court order are followed and to prevent future noncompliance.

In certain contested custody cases, an advocate, known as a Guardian ad Litem, is appointed to represent the best interests of the child.  A Guardian conducts an investigation into the circumstances of the case and makes a recommendation to the Court regarding custody and parenting time.  Ashley is a trained Guardian ad Litem available to assist in your case.
